God's Word Never Goes Out of Style

By Vanessa Davis Griggs

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.” John 1:1-5. “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.” John 1:14. Hebrews 13:8 tells us, “Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and for ever.”

We’ve had minis and maxis when it comes to our dress lengths. We’ve had bell bottom pants, platform shoes, pointy toes, square toes, round toes shoes. There was a time when if your pants were above your ankles and close to your shin you were accused of wearing high waters, told you were “flooding” and people laughed at you. Now they are called capris. Fishnets are in, fishnets are out. Tights are in, tights are out. Stockings are required; then who really needs to wear stockings anymore? Plaid is in, plaid is out. Three-piece suits are the rave. No, double-breasted suits are what’s really happening.

Clothes may go in and out of style. Shoes may change from one season to another. But God’s Word never goes out of style. The same Word that kept the three Hebrew boys when they were thrown in their fiery furnace is the same Word that will keep you, be with you in your fiery furnace. The same Word that closed the mouths of hungry lions when Daniel was dropped down into the lion’s den is the same Word that will keep you when people are roaring and looking hungrily at you.

King David wrote in Psalm 37:25, “I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.” God’s Word, back in King David’s day, is still relevant today. King Solomon asked God for wisdom. God not only blessed him with wisdom but blessed him with riches. God’s Word never goes out of style. You can still have wisdom from the Lord and still walk in God’s blessings today. Joseph had a dream. He went through so much in his journey to that dream. But in the end, what God showed Joseph became manifested. What the devil meant for Joseph’s bad, God turned it and used it for his good. Don’t you fret: what the devil may mean for your bad, God will turn it and use it for your good. God’s Word never goes out of style.

Paul, who is credited for so much of the New Testament, went through so much as a Christian. The same Paul who once fervently persecuted Christians as Saul before His road to Damascus conversion. Paul was shipwrecked, bitten by a venomous snake that should have killed him but didn’t, put in prison, placed under house arrest, and eventually crucified. And through all of this, in Philippians 4:4 we find him saying, “Rejoice in the Lord always, and again I say, Rejoice.” Philippians 4:7 saying, “And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” The same Paul who told us in Philippians 4:13 that no matter what is going on, “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.”

May I have a “Word” with you? God’s Word never goes out of style. Put on the Word of God. Wear the Word daily. You can sport God’s Word in season and out of season. People of God, let me tell you this: God’s Word never goes out of style!
